Applications for Master Composter Certificate program NOW OPEN!

Overview: The Master Composter Certificate Course is an education and outreach program
designed to build a citywide network of composters, advocates and educators to support the
NYC Compost Project and community composting initiatives. The course is offered once each
spring in all 5 boroughs. In Manhattan, the course is hosted at the LES Ecology Center.

Those accepted into the program will learn:
• Basic compost science
• Urban compost system design
• Outreach techniques

Certification Requirements: 24 hours of classroom instruction, 2 field trips, 30 hours of
compost-related volunteering, and an independent project.

Eligibility: Applicants must be NYC residents and be at least 18 years old.
Fee: There is a course material fee of $40, which is paid on the first day of the course.
Scholarships are available.

Manhattan Course Application deadline: February 5, 2020
Dates and time: Thursdays 6pm – 9pm on March 26; April 2, 9, 16, 30; May 7, 14, 21
Field trips: Saturdays April 18 and May 2
Location: East River Park Fire Boat House located at the intersection of Grand Street and the East River Promenade
